Operation Hamantashen
February 26, 2012
For the Purim holiday, a festive one for the Jewish people, cookies called Hamantashen are baked. These pastries are supposed to symbolize the defeated enemy of the Jewish people, and thus resemble the "ears of Haman" (Haman being the villain of Purim).
This year, The Simon Family JCC’s Children and Family Department, in collaboration with the Young Adult Divisionof the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, is holding the second annual Operation Hamantashen on February 26th at the JCC from 1-4 pm. The purpose of this event is to bake Purim cookies for Jewish soldiers serving our country. Cookies for the troops will be sent to commanders at such locations as Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune to disperse to Jewish soldiers. Plenty of extra Hamantashen will be made for sale and consumption by this community!
