    Hope House Foundation, a non-profit organization that has been providing support services for people with developmental disabilities since 1964, announces the dates for the 28th Annual Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival—May 19-20, 2012, at Stockley Gardens Park in the Ghent section of Norfolk. The park is located on the corner of Stockley Gardens and Olney Road in Norfolk. The hours of the festival, which is free and open to the public, are Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit Hope House Foundation.

    Proud Sponsors of the event include: Miller Oil/Miller Mart, Mancon, Ghent Business Association, Old Point National Bank, WNIS 790AM, WHRO, VEER Magazine, Hampton Roads Magazine, 93.7 BOB-FM.

    Over 140 artists have been selected to exhibit at the festival, which offers exhibition opportunities in every fine-art medium, such as painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and jewelry.

    Specialty food items will be available from many area vendors throughout the weekend. Vendors include such favorites as Ben & Jerry’s, Belmont House of Smoke, Cogan’s Pizza, Hawaiian Sno, East Fresh, Sherri’s Crab Cakes, Grapevine Restaurant, and Eat-a-Pita.

    This Spring we are debuting an new line up of local musical talent over the course of the festival, and will include well-known favorites such as So What!, Skye Zentz, Mink & Cheef’s Electric Band, Bria Kelly & Friends, ZigZag, More Perfect Jones, Betty Iron Thumbs, Dancing with Dragons, Jim Masters, and Passenger. We will also have a variety of children’s activities throughout the course of the festival.

    Please note that “Anchors Aweigh” is the name for the official song of the US Navy, and the title of a 1945 musical-comedy film starring Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Out of our respect for military traditions, as well as for the copyright privileges of original artists, we have chosen to designate our musical revue
    “Anchors Away”.

    The 2012 season will be the Tides’ 44th season at the Triple-A level and 20th season at Harbor Park. It will also be Norfolk’s sixth season as the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

    Armed Forces Night and Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza
    Active duty and retired military personnel as well as dependents can show their ID at the Harbor Park box office to get box seat tickets for $8.50 each and reserved seat tickets for $7.50 each.

    Sunday, May 20
    The Norfolk Tides will welcome dog owners and their dogs to a special Sunday afternoon baseball game at Harbor Park.
    Plus, the first 4,000 fans entering Harbor Park will receive a full color photograph of a Tides player courtesy of "The Tide" Light Rail System and ESPN Radio 94.1 FM.
    Also, the Tides welcome New York Mets legend Ed Kranepool for a special appearance.

    Spectators will have the opportunity to observe breed Conformation competition (similar to dog shows on TV) as well as Rally and Obedience Trials. You will be able to see many different breeds of dogs and be able to talk to groomers, handlers and breeders. Shop at a the vendors booths for some doggie related goodies for your own winner at home. Sorry but dogs not entered in the show are not allowed in the building.

    This is an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned show. Each day is a whole new show so come on out and root for your choice of "Best in Show" each day.

You will create three finished acrylic paintings in eight weeks, while you learn the basics of color theory, composition and technique. The production, with over 100 dancers, will focus on a day in the life of Lincoln Center in New York City, covering the many activities that the center hosts throughout the course of a day. Music in the production ranges from David Benoit, Philip Glass, Gershwin, Bach and Rachmaninoff to music from Cirque du Soleil and Broadway.

Centered on a rare interview that director Tamra Davis shot with her friend Jean-Michel Basquiat more than 20 years ago, this definitive documentary chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of the young artist. Bring a lawn chair or blanket since weather permitting our first two films will be shown in Mary's Garden with a cash bar, otherwise, we'll cool off in the Kaufman Theatre in the Chrysler Museum.
